Welcome to our list of interesting and Rare seeds .

I made a interesting seed collecting trip to the North Island of New Zealand in the Autumn and collected a very good selection of new species including a range of Maple species some which are exceptionally rare .One of these Acer pentaphylum with its long finger like foliage is possibly the one of the rarest Maples, it is rarely found in cultivation and it is thought, only a handful of trees exist in its Native China. I also managed to collect seed of Acer pubinerve which is a Maple I introduced into the UK some years ago so it was exciting to find this species in New Zealand. Acer oliverianum ssp formosanum was another find, this delicate looking maple has the most elegant five slightly glossy lobed leaves which emerge a bright bronze colour. Stewartia is one of my favourite genus so to find seed of the lovely Stewartia monadelpha a small tree which gives all year round interest was great. I also came a cross a garden with a good collection of Enkianthus species so was able to add a number of really good species to the list including Enkianthus cernums rubrum an elegant species with the darkest red flowers . Finally Cytisus battandieri is back in our list this plant with its beautiful bright yellow pineapple scented flowers has always been difficult to obtain.
